Commissioners tackle several topics at meeting

The Falls County Commissioners Court met at the County Courthouse in Marlin on Monday, Jan. 8, with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F.A. Green (Pct. 2), Jason Willberg (Pct. 3) and Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4).

Numerous agenda items were approved by the Commissioners. 

Concerning the Hrabal Addition outside of Golinda on FM 423, Commissioners approved the splitting of designated area into three plats. Also approved was the bonding of Deisi Espinoza and Jason Campbell, employees at the Sheriff Department. 

Commissioner Willberg moved to accept the county’s quarterly investment report submitted by the County Treasurer. Seconded by Commissioner Wuebker, the motion carried. Kayci Nehring, Tax Assessor-Collector’s submitted her Continuing Education transcript confirming education requirements had been meet. 

Commissioner Green moved to approve the Onsite Preventative Maintenance on election machines. Seconded by Commissioned Albright, the motion carried. HART InterCivic will provide the services. The Commissioners Court agreed to accept the Victims Assistance General Direct Services grant project to be operated for 2024 and 2025 fiscal years and the Violence Against Women Formula Grant project. Falls County Judge Jay Elliott will serve as the authorized official. Jeff Jackson, Road & Bridge Administrator, noted soon, employees will participate in a required driving requirement course. 

The court went into Executive Session to discuss making an offer to contract to purchase a commercial building and lot at 111 6th St. in Chilton. After returning to open session, Commissioner Green moved to approve the pursuance. Seconded by Commissioner Albright, the motion carried. A buyer’s agent was selected to represent Falls County in negotiating the contract. At a previous meeting, it was discussed to be a possible location for JP Pct. 4.

Prior to approving the payment of bills, budget amendments, the cost of prescribed medications for inmates was discussed with one at a cost of $3,900. An extensive search for generics and other options will be considered.  Commissioner Albright moved to approve the payment of bills, seconded by Commissioner Wuebker, motion carried. The minutes from the previous meeting were approved and the meeting was adjourned.
