Vivian “Vicky” Ann Killgore

Vivian “Vicky” Ann Killgore, age 69, passed from this life on April 21, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.

Vicky is preceded in death by her parents John Ralph Jr., and Martha Lawson Killgore; her fraternal grandparents, John Ralph Killgore Sr., and Vivian Killgore; and uncle, Jack Killgore; her maternal grandparents Herbert and Eva Lawson.

Vicky is survived by brother, John R. Killgore III; sisters Karan and Jennifer Killgore and Andrea Fergerson; and beloved nieces and nephews.

Vicky loved her animal companions - canine friends, Minda and KC, and one very special feline named Little One. It will be quite a heavenly reunion for them all.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, on June 13, 1952, Vicky was proudly adopted at the tender age of 18 months by U.S. Air Force Sgt. John and Martha Lawson Killgore. Upon their return from Japan, John, Martha, and Vicky moved to Waco, TX. Vicky was proudly welcomed to the United States by paternal Killgore and maternal Lawson families.

Vicky attended Rosebud schools and had the distinction of never being absent or tardy. She was editor of her high school newspaper “The Rosebud.”  She was secretary of her senior class, played in the band and was a very competitive tennis player.

Vicky graduated from Rosebud High School in 1970 and went on to receive her Bachelor’s in Health Education at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos in 1974.

Vicky first moved to Austin in 1973. She enjoyed a long career in publishing and as a document management specialist including 8 years at Tracor Publications in Austin, Texas, 13 years at the Texas Education Agency and another 16 years at UT Law School.

Vicky’s journalistic instinct is a family trait. She often pitched in at the Rosebud News – the paper her family owned for 70 years. With her experience working in publishing and her technical know-how, she helped bring the paper into the computer age.

Vicky loved dogs, camping and reading non-fiction and keeping young at heart playing with her nieces, nephews and great-nephews.

Per Vicky’s request there will be no formal service. She will be laid to rest next to her paternal grandmother and namesake Vivian Killgore along with her animal companions Minda, KC and Little One.
