Cougars host tournament over holiday week
The Rosebud-Lott Cougars basketball team hosted an in-season tournament Dec. 25-27. The Cougars finished the weekend with a record of 1-2.
They played two games on Thursday; the first game was against the Killeen Kangaroos JV team. The Cougars fell to Killeen, losing 43-37. Their second game came against the Rogers Eagles. Rosebud-Lott fell to Rogers by the same score, losing 43-37.
The Cougars played their final game on Friday against the Valley Mills Eagles. Rosebud-Lott defeated the Eagles 46-30 to finish the tournament strong. Rosebud-Lott started the game fast spurting to a 6-0 start. The Cougars continued their momentum with a three pointer by DJ Hicks (3) for a 9-5 lead. That was soon followed with a successful three-point play by Pryce Rabroker (10) to make it a 14-5 lead. The first quarter ended with the Cougars ahead 16-7.
The first points of the second quarter came from a layup by Jamarquis Johnson (1) for an 18-7 lead. Rosebud-Lott remained aggressive with a fastbreak layup by Rabroker to increase their lead to double digits at 22-9. Valley Mills tried to come back with a 7-2 run, but Rosebud-Lott responded with a layup by Johnson to stay ahead 26-16. The Cougars went into halftime leading 26-18 after a buzzer beating basket by Valley Mills.
The first points of the third quarter came from a layup by Jayden Thomas (5) making the score 28-18. The Cougars continued to dominate with an impressive layup by Rabroker for a commanding 32-19 lead. The third quarter ended with Rosebud-Lott ahead 36-24. The first points of the fourth quarter came from a layup by Johnson to take a 38-24 lead. The Cougar defense was very stout to start the quarter. They didn’t allow a score until a Valley Mills three pointer at the 4-minute mark to make the score 40-27. Rosebud-Lott stayed relentless with a tough layup by Thomas to increase the lead to 42-27, and they would coast to victory and win the game 46-30.
After hosting the Crawford Pirates on Tuesday, the Cougars will travel to take on the Bosqueville Bulldogs. The game will be on Friday, Jan. 9, and tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
