Lady Cougars sweep Marlin

The Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars volleyball team traveled to take on the Marlin Lady Bulldogs on Friday. The Lady Cougars swept Marlin 3-0. 

The first set stayed even until Rosebud-Lott pulled away and took a 16-9 lead. Marlin broke the drought with a point to make the score 16-10. The Lady Cougars continued to stay ahead with an ace by Kayley Robertson (3) to make it an 18-11 lead. Marlin tried to stay alive with an ace of their own to make the score 20-12. Rosebud-Lott grew their lead to double digits on an ace by Kaitlyn Jenkins (7) for a 23-13 lead and would win the first set 25-13.

The first point of the second set went to Rosebud-Lott. Marlin kept the game close with a point to shorten the Lady Cougar lead to 3-2. Rosebud-Lott remained ahead and scored on a kill by Aniah Cavitt (10) to take an 8-5 lead. Marlin fought their way back and scored on an ace to close the gap to 8-7. 

The Lady Bulldogs tied the set at 8 then took the lead 10-9. Marlin extended their lead to 12-9 on an ace. The Lady Cougars rallied back and tied the set at 14 with an ace by Ava Hrabal (2). Rosebud-Lott retook the lead 18-17, then soon increased their lead with two consecutive aces by Kinsley Edwards (8) to make the score 21-17. The Lady Cougars finished the job and pulled away to win the second set 25-17.

The first point of the third set went to Rosebud-Lott. Marlin responded with a 4-1 run with help from a block to take a 4-2 lead. The Lady Bulldogs extended their lead with two consecutive aces to have the Lady Cougars trailing 8-3. Rosebud-Lott continued to fight and scored on an ace by Jenkins to make it a 10-5 deficit, but Marlin answered back and grew their lead to 12-6. The Lady Cougars broke the drought with a big kill by Cavitt to make the score 12-7. 

Rosebud-Lott clawed their way back and closed the gap to 12-11 on a clutch block by Brightan Willberg (6). The Lady Cougars tied the set at 12 then took the lead 13-12. The Lady Cougars continued to grow their lead with a 3-0 run to make the score 16-12. Rosebud-Lott stayed ahead with a kill by Willberg for an 18-13 lead. Marlin tried to start a rally but Rosebud-Lott stopped their momentum with a kill by Robertson, making lead 22-16. Rosebud-Lott finished strong to win the third set 25-18 and to complete the sweep.

Jackie Salazar played a great game with 14 digs, an ace, and two assists. Brightan Willberg had an amazing game with eight kills, two digs, and a block. Kaitlyn Jenkins was amazing with 9 kills, 12 digs, and an ace. Kayley Robertson also had a phenomenal game with five kills, 12 digs, an ace, and 24 assists. 

With this victory, Rosebud-Lott has an overall record of 22-11 and a district record of 2-1. After a home matchup with the Chilton Lady Pirates on Tuesday and an open date on Friday, the Lady Cougars will stay at home to host the Riesel Lady Indians. The game will be Tuesday, Oct. 10, and is set to start at 6 p.m.
