21 Rosebud-Lott Teachers Earn TIA Funds

After just a handful of teachers earned TIA funds last year at Rosebud-Lott ISD, this year 21 teachers were surprised with funds on Monday, April 27.

Earning the Masters designation were - Chelsea Gilmore, Daniel Gilmore, Joel Bell, and Rebecca Velazquez.

Earning the Exemplary designation were Kenneth Benson, Drew Quinney, Paskanell Beeman, Audra Mock, David Moody, Kendra Rabroker, Cody Jones, Jessica Wills, Lori Avalos, Mary Catherine Bravo, Ann Diaz, Anne Kohring, and Tiffany Campbell.

Earning the Recognized designation were - Erin Farmer, Vickie Pedersen, and Renee Wilfert.

The teachers will receive a large check once a year for five years. They can continue to earn the designation each year to add on more years. The designation can increase from year to year over the five years, but the designation level can not decrease throughout the years. House Bill 3 established TIA, where outstanding Texas teachers can earn a designation – a distinction awarded to highly effective public school teachers. Allotments are recalculated annually and tied to the designated teacher’s campus of employment as of the last Friday in February. The allotment funding generated by a designation is calculated based on the teacher’s level of designation as well as the campus’ socioeconomic and rural status. Allotments ranges for each level of designation are - Recognized: $3,000 - $9,000, Exemplary: $6,000 - 18,000, and Master: $12,000 - $32,000. TIA funding is issued to districts. Districts are notified of annual allotments in April and must expend the funds by August 31. Districts must develop a local spending plan for allotment funds. 90% or more of the funds must be spent on teacher compensation on the campus where the designated teacher worked. The district may choose to reserve up to 10% to support the designation system or to support teachers in getting designated. The percentage of allotment funds awarded directly to the designated teacher is a local decision and will vary by district.
