FUMC Rosebud to Celebrate 75th Anniversary

The First United Methodist Church of Rosebud will celebrate the 75th anniversary of their current building with a special service at 11 a.m. Sunday, November 9, at the church.

This is the second building at the current location on Main Street. The earlier building burned February 9, 1949, on a night so cold that the water froze in the fire hydrants and the firemen and spectators could only watch it burn. A hymn book was saved—and the lots.

Construction of the current building was completed in 1950, but not dedicated until November 25, 1950, when the Rev. Leon Peacock was pastor. The original building consisted of the sanctuary with beautiful stained-glass windows, a parlor, a mini kitchen, a pastor’s office, a church library, restrooms, and Sunday School classrooms.

In March of 1976 the fellowship hall, a large kitchen, restrooms and a nursery were added.

It is the part completed in 1950 which the congregation is celebrating with the November 9 service.
