Governor Activates Emergency Response Resources For Central Texas Storms

Gov. Greg Abbott activated state emergency response resources earlier this week as a major storm system targeted Rosebud and the broader Central Texas region.

The move directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to deploy assets in anticipation of severe weather.

The National Weather Service tracked a significant footprint of thunderstorm activity that brought the potential for damaging winds exceeding 75 miles per hour and hail reaching over two inches in diameter.

Forecasters warned of isolated rainfall totals between three and six inches, creating a high risk for flash flooding and localized tornadoes across North and Central Texas.

“Texas is prepared to confront the severe storms that pose a threat to communities all across our state,” Abbott stated. He urged residents to monitor local forecasts and follow the guidance of emergency officials.

State resources available to support local operations include Texas A&M Task Force squads for water rescues, Texas Highway Patrol troopers and saw crews from the Texas A&M Forest Service to clear debris from roadways. The Public Utility Commission also monitored the grid for power outages as the storms moved toward the coast.

With local flooding possible near Rosebud, officials remind drivers to never attempt to cross flowing streams or submerged roads.
