Old Settlers Celebration

The Old Settler’s and Veterans held their annual Veteran’s day celebration on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Located between Marlin and Lott on FM 2027, historic Tomlinson Hill camp grounds was home to a number of attractions. The event pulled in a large crowd from the surrounding areas, with the program featuring a number of locals. After a welcome and prayer, the Lorena Boy Scouts and Marlin 4H came up for the pledge, followed by the National Anthem. A riveting explanation of ‘The Meaning of Veteran’s Day’ was given by USAF Veteran, Rogers Craig, followed by Cowboy Poet, Jim Cathey.

Tomlinson Hill has a long history. It was established in 1908 and is currently still one of the most endangered places in Texas according to Preservation Texas in 2016. The land is home to a campgrounds, a tabernacle, and a dying log cabin.
