Rosebud church celebrating 140th anniversary with events

Independent Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 140th Church Anniversary Oct. 20-24.

The church is located at 219 N 9th Street in Rosebud.

It was organized several years before the railroad of Rosebud was to be platted, Independent Missionary Baptist Church was established two blocks from were the future railroad was to be platted. 

The largest Negro church established in October 1881 by the hands of share croppers freed in 1865. The church was established with several board members. 

In 1903 several families where the church is located deeded the land to the church. 

In 1916 the church was remodeled a corner stone marker was placed on the left corner of the building. They are still seeking to be recognized by Texas Historical site. 

The establishment was a large church set to serve a mass of people that were due flow in with the future Railroad platted. The City of Rosebud was established by countrymen citizens in 1889 and recognized by state in 1907. The city limit sign moved west in 1907 placing Independent Missionary Baptist Church as the first black and the largest and oldest church within the city limits of Rosebud. 

Joining the Falls County Baptist Association, later in 1900 became a charter member and headquarters of the newly created Good Hope Western General Association. Worship services were held every Sunday with ringing the worship bell. The church was used a beacon of rescue with underground cellar (that is currently used as the baptismal) it was a resource for  food and shelter for West Rosebud citizens the negro community. It was also utilized for additional classrooms for elementary black students, along with football practice field and commencement graduations for Wilson White, the all Negro High School of Rosebud, in which Earnestine Hill Warren, the first black mayor of Rosebud and first black retired educator of Rosebud School District was graduate of Wilson White and was a member of Independent Missionary Baptist Church. 

The congregation serves in the capacity of mission as ladies of Mission I society. NAACP chapter of Rosebud. State Baptist Conventions. Independent Missionary Baptist Church of Rosebud remains humble and is an important part of the religious life of this community. 

It continues to uphold the service of its founder every Sunday Morning Sunday School at 9 a.m. with morning worship  at 10 a.m. with Charles L. Clark serving as the current pulpit pastor the last 10 years and serving as the longest-term Pastor in History of Independent Missionary Baptist Church. 

Throughout the community of Rosebud and nearby areas there are several that are still members of IMBC. 

All are invited to the Homecoming and 140th Milestone Church Anniversary Celebration starting with a two-night Revival on Wednesday, Oct. 20, and Thursday, Oct, 21. Church Anniversary Musical on Saturday, Oct. 23, starting at 6:30 p.m. with gospel groups, choirs, soloist, and praise dancers more are welcome to come and sing sign up at the door.

Followed by a 3 p.m. Special Anniversary Homecoming Service with guest speaker Pastor Keenan DeBose of New Jerusalem international Baptist Church of Killeen, who also the son of Former IMBC Pastor the late Rev. WE DeBose.
