Dine Local events return to Rosebud

Back in 2018, the Rosebud Parks and Recreation department teamed up with the Town Square Community Foundation (TSCF) to come up with new ideas to help raise money for the THRIVE | Master Plan to improve Rosebud's parks. The outcome of the partnership is the Dine Local program, where community eateries donate a portion of their profits on a particular day to further the parks’ renovations.

"Dine Local is not only a way for the community to support Phase 1 of the THRIVE Master Plan to improve the parks, but it also creates a unique way for the community to support our local eating establishments who are giving back to help us build better parks in Rosebud," postulated Erika Vergara, Park Board member.

Business owners are excited for the opportunity to participate in the event as well. They understand that the park is a community effort.

“"This is an exciting time for our community. American Legion Park has not been updated since the 1940's,” said Sue Surrock, local business owner and Rosebud Chamber of Commerce member. “This project is huge for our town, and the improvements made will impact generations to come.”

Phase One of the project is progressing as expected, aided consistently by volunteers. There have been 7,000 cubic yards of fill hauled to raise the elevation. The walking path has been staked and is expected to begin construction within the next couple weeks.

The first Dine Local Event of the year will be on Saturday, Oct. 24, featuring Lil’ Joe’s BBQ. Order a chopped beef sandwich combo by calling (254) 563-7007. It is $7.95 and comes with chips and a drink.

Thursday, Nov. 19, HWY 77 will be donating a portion of the profits from the Bacon Cheddar Chicken Entree, which comes with your choice of two sides.

The first Saturday of December, Artisan Alley will be participating with orders of hot chocolate.

Bakealicious, Rosebud’s newest eatery, will be donating profits from ‘Cheesecake of the Week’ sales on Dec. 18.

“With the help of the community dining local and businesses like Hwy 77 Cafe, Artisan Alley, 'Lil Joe's BBQ, Muffin's Country Kitchen, Tasty Mart and Los Comalitos close to $900 has been raised, since Dine Local first kicked off in 2018,” said Jamie Moeller, board member. ”Rosebud Parks and Recreation is excited to have Rosebud's newest bakery, Bakealicious, participate in this year's Dine Local event.”

There is no specific goal for each event, as there are many phases to go in the revamping of the parks. Sponsorships and naming opportunities are still available for the walking trail, Creative Play Area and Cluster Fitness Area.
