Kids storytime goes virtual
A number of storytime videos have been released recently, read by various Rosebud Community members. Some have been in connection with the D. Brown Memorial Library and some have been through the Rosebud Municipal Court. All of the videos have been posted to Youtube for viewers to watch at their leisure.
It first began on June 12, with the reading of “The Empty Pot” by Demi, as a part of the Library's summer reading series. It was read by Sharon Skupin, one of the Aldermen for Ward III in Rosebud. The book tells a story about Ping, a young boy who grew the most beautiful flowers in China. When the Emperor decided that whoever could grow the biggest, most beautiful flower, would succeed him to the throne, Ping was sure he that he would become Emperor. However, when Ping was unable to grow a flower with the seed that he received, he was unexpectedly rewarded. This book offers parents the opportunity to talk about the character challenges in life that we face everyday, the country of China, and the science of botany.
Another video, as on the library’s youtube page, is "Cindy Ellen: A Wild Western Cinderella," written by Susan Lowell. It is read by Melissa Wilmoth, the Rosebud Municipal Court Clerk. This story is a wild west version of the fairytale, “Cinderella.” This book has the ability to expose children to history, allows for additional imagination to be added to something they possibly already know, and can promote creativity if additional activities are instituted along with the text.
Rosebud Municipal Judge Matthew Wright also read a story, posted to the Rosebud Court of Record Youtube channel. He read “Eddie Eagle: The Attic Secret,” which is a part of the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program. This series teaches children pre-k through fourth grade how to properly handle gun safety. It outlines the steps to follow as stop, don’t touch, run away, and find a grown up. This book can be used for parents teaching their children how to handle seeing, finding, or dealing with a gun they have at home or one they may encounter elsewhere.
These storytimes have not been released on any specific schedule, but links to those already out can be found on a variety of community Facebook pages.
