Miss Juneteenth Rehearsal May 6

The Tri County Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant is back for 2020.

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas, and more generally the emancipation of enslaved African Americans throughout the former Confederate States of America, outside Native American lands.

The scholarship programs are held around the country each year, motivating African-American girls toward future success. Last year's pageant was held on June 14. Winners were Lil Miss Juneteenth Chyna Smith from Temple, Miss Juneteenth Zakyia Larkin from Temple, and DaNyuha Wells from Cameron.

The Tri-County pageant is held each year for the residents of Bell, Falls, and Milam counties. Any and all girl between the ages of four and 18 are eligible to participate.

A pageant rehearsal will take place Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at 6 p.m. It will be at Independent Missionary Baptist Church (219 N 9th St in Rosebud). If interested, parents should be present with their daughters.
