Recognizing a selfless act

The members of the First Baptist Church of Golinda found themselves with a dilemma when the cord to their flag pole broke earlier this month.

Much time and energy was exhausted in searching for someone to re-string it, as no one at the church had a ladder tall enough.

“I called around to several places asking for help when Golinda’s law enforcement officer, Brandon Henderson, answered my plea for help,” explained Donna Thorne, a longtime member who opted to help with the situation. She says that she made phone calls, asked friends, and then finally turned to a community Facebook page.

Henderson, who is Chief of the Volunteer Fire Department in town, replied to the post, volunteering to assist them on Oct. 13 with his 35-foot ladder even though he was off-duty that day.

“I surely believe this is above and beyond his call of duty to help in his community,” Thorne continued.

Pastor Morgan Woodard and the congregation of FBC of Golinda wish to extend thanks to Chief Henderson.
