Sewing Camp begins next week

The Rosebud 2020 Sewing Camp will take place from June 22-25 at the Rosebud Bible Chapel.

The instructor of the camp will be Janna Price, who has done a similar camp in Robertson County for the past 13 years. This will be the first she has taught in Rosebud or in Falls County.

The camp will begin at 8:30 a.m. each day, but participants are encouraged to come early to set up. Breaks will be taken midway through the morning and at lunchtime. Students are asked to bring a snack to share each day, along with a sack lunch. Thursday, pizza will be provided for lunch. Organizers will provide beverages each day.

Monday through Wednesday the students will conclude their adventures at 3 p.m., but Thursday, parents and guardians are invited to admire the many projects that will be completed as the camp winds down at noon.

Projects will include a petal pincushion, pillowcase, envelope pillow cases with insert, a reversible tote bag, and pajamas, along with two community service projects. Students will each craft a baby blanket to be donated to the Hope Pregnancy Center or to a new mom of the student’s choice. There will also be a “Have a Heart” floral quilt crafted, with help from all campers. The quilt will be auctioned off or raffled, with the proceeds going to the Town Square Community Foundation to assist with funds raised from the completion of Phase One of the American Legion Park improvement plan.

Standard supplies are as follows: sewing machine with foot pedal, cords, and manual; fabric tape measure; thread (colors should match projects); bobbins for each color thread, both fabric- and paper-cutting scissors; straight pins; seam ripper and guide; needles; extra machine needles; marking utensils; and sew box/storage container. A thimble and/or pin cushion are suggested as  well, but optional. Additional supplies that are not required but may be helpful are iron board/iron, rotary cutter/ruler/mat, and extension cords.

A sewing machine can be borrowed from Price for the week, as long as she knows ahead of time. She has had a number of them donated over the years for use at her sewing camps.

Parents are asked to make sure their sewing machine is in good working condition before the first day of camp, as that may put a blip in their student’s ability to work on projects.

Each project has an additional list of supplies, mostly fabrics, which can be found at The Fabric Barn in Downtown Rosebud.

Parents are encouraged to allow students to pick their own fabrics and are reminded to make sure they are something their child would wear/use, as the projects created will be taken home.

Fabric can be found at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Joanne’s for a reasonable price, but Rosebud’s The Fabric Barn is offering a 10 percent discount on supplies purchased for this sewing camp.
