Shelly Luther Attends Laredo Rally in Support of Two Women Arrested After Attempting to Perform At-Home Beauty Services to Make Ends Meet During COVID-19

Laredo, TX -- Shelley Luther, recently arrested for opening her Dallas hair salon in an effort to allow nearly two dozen workers to make ends meet and feed their families, today attended a rally in Laredo in support of Ana Isabel Castro-Garcia and Brenda Stephanie Mata. Both women were arrested in mid-April for attempting to perform at-home beauty services.

Shelly Luther said: “I was so proud to stand alongside these two incredibly strong women today who were not afraid to stand up for their families during these difficult times. I want to thank the Open Texas organization for hosting today’s rally so we can show our support for people who want to open their business, feed their families, and get back to work. My family and I will be donating a portion of the proceeds we have raised from our GoFundMe to pay for the legal costs these two women have incurred and will continue to give a voice to the men and women in Texas and across the country who have been struggling to make ends meet during COVID-19.”

Media contacts for Shelley Luther have a low-quality video of her remarks that will be sent upon request. In the meantime, a Facebook Live video of the event has been recorded by the Laredo Morning Times, which can be found here. Photos of the rally can be found here.

Earlier this week, Luther and her family announced the formation of a foundation to disperse the $500,000.00 in GoFundMe support to Texans in need. The foundation can be found at couragetostand.com. Luther has already given thousands of dollars to local hairstylists and their workers in the Dallas-Fr Worth area hit hardest by the COVID-19 pandemic.
