Preservation Rosebud Holds Garage Sale at the Museum
After three years of holding the garage sale at Greg and Marla Wallace’s pavilion on Main St., Preservation Rosebud members decided to move their location to the museum on N. Second St. to be near the center of the action. The October 30 workday was held to assemble and price items. Les and Fran Heugatter, La Verne Withers, Joe and Sharon Saunders, and Greg and Marla Wallace got every- thing organized with La Verne Withers leading the way with her expert pricing skills.
Greg and Marla Wallace, Joe and Sharon Saunders, James Prothro, Molly Wilson, Les and Fran Heugatter and daughter Jessica Noser, Alfred Martinez, and La Verne Withers donated items to be sold.
Joe and Sharon Saunders provided the 13’ by 13’ tent for the event. The weather prediction showed intermittent sprinkles, and the group was happy for the protection.
The morning of The 100+ Garage Sales began at 7:00 a.m. with Fran Heugatter’s coffee, cookies, and banana muffins. Greg Wallace arrived shortly with bags of warm breakfast tacos and salsa from Comalito’s. Les Heugatter, James Prothro, and Alfred Martinez set up the tent and with Greg Wallace’s help, assembled the tables.
Preservation Rosebud is fortunate to have many great volunteers. Members there for the fundraiser were: La Verne Withers, Alfred Martinez, Les and Fran Heugatter, Greg and Marla Wallace, James Prothro, and Joe and Sharon Saunders.
It’s always fun to meet up with friends who are strolling around town. Patricia Sharp, Barbara Sapp, Diane Pagel, Tiffani Murray, Becky Meacham, “The Parks Girls, “ Jo- Carol Fabianke and Kathy Parks Clayton, stopped by to chat. Newlyweds Tracey Miller and bride Getruda Miller were among the shoppers.
New Preservation Rosebud annual members Gladys White and daughter Sharon White-Selman of Temple toured the museum for the first time. They have attended many Heugatter reunions at the D. Brown Library but never walked across the street to the Old City Hall/ Fire Station, now Preservation Rosebud.
Everyone enjoyed a picnic lunch prepared by Sharon Saunders. Chicken salad sandwiches, pimento cheese, red and green grapes, potato chips, and a variety of cookies were spread out in the conference room. Sharon sets a colorful table using red napkins and a square wooden board for the multi grain bread.
A heartwarming highlight for the volunteers happened when Marla Wallace found a brown embossed leather wallet lying on the ground in front of the tables. Mr. Garcia had lost his wallet! Someone nearby said a man had ridden by on a bicycle and his wallet had fallen from his back pocket. The group began scanning the crowd and about fifteen minutes later a worried Mr. Garcia pedaled by. “Did you lose a wallet?” Fran Heugatter asked. His face lit up with relief. “Oh, thank you, thank you!” He reclaimed his wallet, hugged everyone and rode away, being sure to secure his wallet inside his jacket. This happy ending was the perfect “cherry on top” to a great time for Preservation Rosebud at the 100+ Garage Sales.
