A Family Farm Full of Love
For Candice French, her family’s small farm isn’t just a business—it’s a classroom. Between raising puppies, collecting eggs, and tending to their growing flock, French Family Aussies and Feathered Friends Farm have become hands-on lessons in responsibility, hard work, and the joy of caring for animals.
Candice, along with her husband and six children, runs both ventures from their home in Rosebud. What began as a love for animals has grown into a full family operation that blends heart, learning, and entrepreneurship.
The first business, French Family Aussies, began in 2021 when Candice fell in love with the Australian Shepherd breed. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, these dogs quickly became the center of her work. Today, she raises, breeds, and trains ASDR-registered Mini and Toy Australian Shepherds, striving to produce wellrounded family pets that can shine both in the show ring and on the farm.
Her efforts have reached far beyond Texas—French Family Aussies has sent puppies to families in six states, as far away as Delaware. “It’s amazing to know our dogs are loved by families all across the country,” Candice said.
In 2024, the family’s passion expanded into Feathered Friends Farm, sparked by her younger sons’ wish to raise a few chickens after moving to the country. What started as a half-dozen hens has now grown to more than 60 birds, including several breeds, a Silkie pen, and even turkeys. Together, the family sells farm-fresh eggs, hatching eggs, and chicks, with the kids taking pride in helping collect and sell them.
Before running the farm, Candice worked as a pharmacy technician. Now, as a homeschooling mom, she uses the farm to teach her children real-world lessons in math, science, and responsibility. Her husband, a registered nurse, lends his hands to every new coop and dog run. “It’s truly a family effort,” Candice said. “Everyone plays a part.”
Beyond their daily routines, the Frenches also find ways to give back. French Family Aussies donates puppies to families in need of service animals, helping offset the high costs of training. Meanwhile, Feathered Friends Farm donates extra eggs to local food banks when the baskets overflow.
Candice admits that time management and expenses can be tough, but she wouldn’t trade it for anything. “Many people think breeding dogs means making money, but it’s really about love and dedication,” she said. “At the end of the day, seeing our animals bring joy to others makes it all worthwhile.”
Her advice for anyone starting out? “Be prepared to lose money at first—but don’t let that stop you. Keep learning, keep working, and don’t forget why you started.
And through it all, she keeps one favorite motto close to heart: “Never get so busy making a living, that you forget to live.”
