New Texas Law to Keep Players and Coaches Safe During Games
A new Texas law was passed recently, to help keep players, coaches, and game officials safe during games.
Senate Bill 2929 (SB 2929) goes into effect immediately for the 2025-26 season. The Bill states that game officials may now REMOVE SPECTATORS IMMEDIATELY for disruptive or inappropriate behavior. No warning is required. If a spectator is asked to leave, the decision is FINAL under Texas law.
The University Interscholastic League (UIL) adds that it would like your (fans) cooperation to help model good sportsmanship, and protect the integrity of our programs.
Spectators should cheer for their players, and not against the other team. Remember, these are students, not professional athletes. Game officials and visiting teams should be treated with respect, and all events should be a positive experience for everyone involved.
If it should come down to it, the UIL has added that schools are allowed three incidents before losing home officials.
It’s understandable to be excited about the game, but also fans should make going to them a fun experience, especially when there are younger kids in attendance.
