Brownlee recognized for accomplishments

Retiring Superintendent Dr. Steve Brownlee said farewell to Rosebud-Lott ISD last Friday, June 5, his last day employed by the district.

During his last attended school board meeting on May 18, Brownlee was presented with a Resolution of Appreciation by board members.

In his four years with RLISD, Brownlee has begun a change in the district, both in relation to the community and within the district.

Along with a number of accolades related to the opening of Rosebud-Lott Elementary last fall, the resolution recognizes the many improvements Brownlee made to the infrastructure of RLISD.

Since his hiring in April of 2016, the educator has had the safety of his students in the forefront, as shown by the many small details that have been improved during his tenure.

Additional lights have been installed in a number of areas frequented after dark, as well as the safety audit process has been streamlined, armed security personnel were hired for the district, the RLISD school bus fleet was updated, and enhanced facility controls put in place. Brownlee was also an essential part of bringing in an active shooter training to further the safety of both the student body and staff.

The educator has raised the bar regarding enrollment, the pre-kindergarten program, and the nutrition department. Both of the latter two were initially restricted by family income, but programs were implemented to break that barrier.

These only break the surface of the changes seen in the culture of Rosebud-Lott ISD since Brownlee’s addition to the district.

He has improved the perception of and relationship of the district with the surrounding community, as he is actively involved with a number of local organizations and has served as the Grand Marshall for the Lott Christmas Parade years in a row.

“Whereas, Dr. Brownlee modeled integrity, charity, faith, hope and love, and demonstrated these values daily to hundreds of students and staff he served,” the resolution reads. “Now, therefore it be resolved, that the Board of Trustees of Rosebud-Lott ISD, meeting in session during the month of May in 2020 at Travis, Texas, hereby express their individual and collective respect for and heartfelt gratitude to, Dr. Steve Brownlee.”

It goes one step further, reading, “be it further resolved, that this action shall be entered into the permanent records of the District and that this resolution shall serve as evidence that the board of Trustees, Administration, Faculty, Staff, and Students of Rosebud-Lott ISD hereby express their sincere appreciation for Dr. Steve Brownlee.”

Said so eloquently, Brownlee truly will go down in the history books of RLISD.

Dr. James Rosebrock, who was hired during the same May 18 meeting, has rather large shoes to fill and is ready to see if they fit. There will be a meet and greet held in the RLMS/RLHS cafeteria on June 15 at 4:30 p.m. The event will be a “come and go” and all community members are encouraged to attend.
