RLISD Superintendent Search soon over

Three Candidates on second round of interviews

Due to the pending retirement of Superintendent Dr. Steve Brownlee, Rosebud-Lott ISD is currently on the prowl for someone to follow in his footsteps.

The search began back in January, when Brownlee gave his letter of resignation during that month’s board meeting. They decided to use a search firm early the next month.

The board met with Kay Douglas from the Texas Association of School Boards for a team building activity on February 10 and made the decision to pursue TASB’s superintendent search services. Comments were taken from community members online and during multiple meetings.

During another special meeting on Monday, April 13, board member Emily Hering made the motion to interview a total of eight candidates for the position, seconded by Don Stiles. The motion passed 7-0. There were initially 68 candidates for the position.

It ended up being only seven candidates; 90 minute interviews for each took place from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. April 21- April 24.

On Saturday, the board met at 8:30 in the morning to narrow the pool down to three and on Monday they again met with TASB to discuss the considered second round candidates. Questions for the second round of interviews were selected during the special meeting as well.

According to the Board Book on the RLISD website, there are interviews scheduled for 6 p.m. all week this week. These interviews will include the candidates’ spouse where applicable, following TASB standard processes. This stage allows the board to get to know each candidate on a more personal level, making sure that the selected candidate fits the needs of the community in all aspects.

Once these are over with, the board will have to decide to narrow the pool more or to choose a lone candidate. The final decision is completely up to the Board of Trustees. TASB will handle getting contracts/etc in place when the time comes.

Rosebud-Lott ISD buildings are closed for the remainder of the academic year, but instruction, nutrition, and support continue from afar. Instruction is being conducted by learning packets for elementary students and via telecommunication for upperclassmen. Meals are served from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. daily. Elementary packets are available for pickup on Mondays during meal times. Head to rlisd.org to stay up to date on the superintendent search and any other changes for the coming school year.
