Cards for veterans and ornament exchange highlight Wednesday Study Club December meeting

President Pat Runcie opened the December meeting of the Rosebud Wednesday Study Club with flag pledges followed by an invocation by Norma Burns.  Since there was no business meeting, the fifteen members worked on creating and signing Christmas cards for the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple.

Mary Ann Mitchell provided blank cards and a variety of Christmas stickers and members crafted individual cards for nearly 150 veterans.  Upon completion of the cards, members enjoyed a Chinese ornament gift exchange.  Individuals could choose a gift from the “pile” or “steal” a previously opened gift.  All of the ornaments were lovely, including an angel, candy cane tree, large, glittered balls, and a counted cross-stitched wreath and Christmas tree.

Members then enjoyed refreshments from the large oak table covered with a red cloth.  Two huge brown wrapped presents topped with Santa’s centered the table with a beautiful poinsettia.  Refreshments included a meat and cheese tray, vegetable tray, white bean chicken chili with a variety of toppings, chips, mini-Christmas muffins, and oatmeal/ butterscotch cookies.  Hostesses were Runcie, Karen Koslosky, and Linda Bernsen.

The next meeting on Jan. 11, 2023, will be a workday to continue identifying and distributing pictures and getting ready for the Golden Years Reunion.
