The Cauldron is Back After a Week of ‘Unrest’

Hello Sports Fans! Did y’all enjoy the week off – I wish I had. But got to tell you, the month of October is a pretty busy time for a bubbling cauldron. There’s witches here and goblins there and it seems like the Halloween season starts earlier and earlier every year. Fortunately for me, so does the Christmas season. Have you looked in Walmart lately? I mean Christmas trees in September? Really? So in another week or two, instead of Oct. 31, the hectic Halloween season will start slowing down as attention start to shift to the fat man in red (no, not Trump – he mostly wears blue). In the meantime, let’s get back to the fun stuff!

So far this year, ol’ Bubbles has a paltry 11-5 record on picks. I blame it on lunar cycles. You see, I’ve been picking for four weeks – three of which included 3-1, 3-1 and 4-0 records. But that week of Sept. 19, man. Jupiter was lined up in the Circardian (no, no relation to the Kardashians) cycle and the moon was in the seventh house. That week I lost my mind and missed three out of four picks. Hey, what’s a Cauldron to do. It is what it is. So excuses aside, let’s get back to this week.

Cameron at McGregor

The McGregor Bulldogs are exactly what the doc ordered for a District 11-3A opener for our Yoemen. Let’s be real. We all thought this season might start better than the 2-3 record we have so far. But at least we’re not McGregor. The Bullpuppies are 0-5 and giving up an average of 53 points a game. The last two outings they only scored 12 and 14 points.

Cameron wins, but I’m struggling by how much. The offense has gone scoreless once, scored 42 once and tossed in a few in between. I THINK the boys get behind the O Line and get near that 42 mark again, so let’s go with CHS by 38.

Marlin at Crawford

The District 13-2A opener for these guys isn’t at all what the doctor ordered for our Bulldogs. Marlin has had more than a tough year, going 0-5. Why could Riesel be the first team up in district play?

I hate, absolutely hate, picking the opposing teams. Remember at the beginning of all this I said I tend to be a homer? So believe me, it hurts to say that I’m going with Crawford by 40.

Rosebud-Lott at Riesel

See, this is what I was talking about. The Cougars open District 13-2A play with Riesel. RL at 4-1 and Riesel’s Peanut Butter Cups at 1-4. Should be a cakewalk, right?

As the worst football coach ever used to say, not so fast my friends.

Yes, RL wins. But it might be closer than anyone expects. Go with the Cougars by 11.

Mason at Thorndale The Punchers come calling to beautiful downtown Thorndale Friday in a District 14-2 A opener that ought to provide plenty of thrills and chills (see what I’m doing here keeping with the Halloween theme?).

Our Bulldogs are 3-2 and the Cow Punchers (why would anyone other than Mongo punch a cow?) are 2--3. The problem for T-dale is it’s been an up and down season – win a game, lose a game; win a game . . .

Unfortunately, I think that pattern continues and Thorndale won last time out. The dastardly punches of cows leave town with a six-point victory.
