Changes in Student Busing

RLISD TRANSPORTATION

As the Director of Transportation, in order to better serve our community, we are changing a few things about the way we operate our RLISD Transportation System for the 2017-2018 school year.

The main factor that I have taken into consideration in planning these changes is student safety. Some of the other factors that we have also taken into consideration are: length of time students ride the bus, grade level of students, the number of changes made each year to bus routes and other factors.

The most significant change will be that we will no longer shuttle students to other buses. Students will be assigned a route. They will ride that bus to school and catch that bus back to their destination in the afternoon.

In addition, we will significantly reduce the number of stops. By reducing the number of stops, we will reduce the amount of time students must stay on the bus. For those who are living in more rural parts of the district, we are reviewing stop locations as students are registering.

Lott Elementary and Rosebud Primary will not be bus stops. Please do not drop your children off at these locations.

There will be 3 bus stops in the City of Rosebud; 6th Street and Main, the Fire Department, and at the Rosebud Intermediate by the monument on Main Street.

The City of Lott will have 2 bus stops: beside the Post Office and at N. Judge Haley at Highway 320.

Bus stops will not be located in cul-de-sacs, deadend streets, or on private roads. Nor will they be located in any location that would require the driver to back up, or on roads not maintained by the City or County.

These types of stops put the safety of our kids and driver at risk. Those stops will be at the nearest intersection.

We are having “Meet the Teacher Night” on all campuses this Thursday, August 24, from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.

There will be transportation forms at each campus. Please take just a few moments to fill them out and get them back to us that night.
