Chase through Lott ends with suspect tackled

A high speed chase that began in Falls County ended in Waco on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Two people were arrested in connection with the pursuit, one of whom is being held without bond.

20-year-old Roman Nino Jr. was driving the car with passenger, Dairah Brooklyn Rodriguez, also 20-years-old.

The Wacoans were followed first by the Lott Police Department, and eventually assisted by both Falls and McLennan County Sheriff’s Deputies on their way north on Highway 77. Robinson Police joined as they passed through the town, with Waco DPS coming in to help too.

Nino made it to the Shipley’s Donut on Waco Dr. in Central Waco before crashing into a vehicle in the restaurant’s drive-thru.

He was then tackled by the male driver of the impacted vehicle as he attempted to flee on foot.

Reports state that the man was having breakfast with his son and was ignorant of the police pursuit when he tackled his aggressor.

Both Nino and Rodriguez were arrested and taken to Falls County Jail. Rodriguez was charged with a misdemeanor count of evading arrest. She was released over the weekend, but Nino remains in custody on multiple charges.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony; evading arrest with a motor vehicle, third degree felony; evading arrest, a misdemeanor; reckless driving; and possession of marijuana less than two ounces.
