City awarded funding for new ADA compliant sidewalks on Main Street

The City of Rosebud has been selected to receive funding through the Texas Department of Transportation’s 2025 Transportation Alternatives Program, bringing a new sidewalk project to the heart of the city.

The project will include the construction of ADAcompliant sidewalks along Main Street from 2nd Street to College Street, providing safer pedestrian access for people of all ages and abilities.

The Transportation Alternatives Program is a competitive state-run initiative that supports locally sponsored bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure projects. Funded through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the program aims to improve safety, mobility, and connectivity for non-motorized travelers by providing alternatives to car travel.

TxDOT prioritizes projects that align with public safety goals, ADA compliance, and commu- nity transportation needs. The department also encourages improvements that enhance walkability near schools and transit stops and that integrate multiple forms of active transportation.

Rosebud’s sidewalk project was selected as part of a statewide call for projects that opened earlier this year. The city’s application was evaluated for its potential to support accessibility, improve pedestrian safety, and foster community connectivity.
