City of Rosebud undergoing water system improvements

The City of Rosebud is undergoing some renovations on the aging infrastructure, which involves  water, sewer and streets.

City Administrator Kenny Ray said that the first update involves the water system.

“We are in the process of adding a total of 22 water main valves,” he said. “We started this process on May 12 when the citizens were notified that the water would be shut off for the entire city. Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid this, so I would like to give you an explanation for the inconvenience. The city’s water system is built on a loop system, which is very common as it prevents the stagnation of water by allowing it to flow in all directions. The loop system creates some issues during repairs, which you experienced when the water was shut off on May 12, 2021 for repairs.”

He said the installation of 22 main valves will allow the city to establish five water districts so that city personnel can shut off one section at a time for future repairs while the rest of the town has no interruption to their water service during these repairs.

“The water department installed five valves during the last shut down leaving 17 valves yet to be installed,” he said. “As a result, your water service will continue to be interrupted as we continue to finish this water project.  I understand it is stressful and unpleasant, but it is necessary.  Once the upgrades are completed, we are hopeful future repairs will not result in the entire town being left without water.

“As we continue with the water project, I  will give everyone as much notice as possible to the day  the water will be shut off to the users,” he said. “Notices are posted on Facebook and sent out on our reverse 911 system via text and phone call. If you are not registered to receive these messages, please go to hotready.com and register for the emergency notifications.  If you do not have the technology or the internet, the employees at City Hall will be able to get you register provided you have a phone. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
