Commissioners reinstate burn ban for Falls County

Falls County Commissioners met on Oct. 11 and reinstated the burn ban for the county. 

The meeting was held in the Falls County Courthouse with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioner Milton Albright was not in attendance. 

Commissioner Jason WiIlberg introduced plans for 84 wind turbines on Highway 7 toward Westphalia.  No action was taken. 

The Commissioners Court ordered that the burn ban remain in effect until Oct. 25. Violation of this order is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.  It does not prohibit any burns supervised by an authorized Volunteer Fire Department.  

Free trash day including tires will be Saturday, Dec. 4, in Lott and Marlin. 

After discussing pros/cons of roadside spraying, it was moved to allow the company to make a presentation at the next Commissioners Court.

The Rededication Ceremony of the Historic County Courthouse is scheduled Saturday, Oct. 16, in the 82nd District Courtroom. The First Lady of Texas, Cecelia Abbott, will be the keynote speaker followed with an open house for viewing the courthouse renovations.

It was noted that the State (Historic Commission) is holding over $542,000 as a retainer that will be reimbursed to the county within one to two years after the contractual renovations are completed. To cover the additional billing, it was moved and seconded to move over funds to the general account. On another note, Falls County was awarded $48,143.20 from balance of the Interpleaded Funds. It was moved to deposit in the general funds as contingency.

The Commissioners renewed the LexisNexis Subscription Amendment for the DA’s Office. Commissioners were reminded of the Oct. 15 deadline concerning the 2022-23 Appraisal District nominations.  The Appraisal District public workshop will be Thursday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m. at the courthouse. It was also moved to accept the resolution concerning Texas Indigent Defense FY2022 Formula Grant.

The Commissioners approved the payment of bills, including reimbursements, late charges, transfer of cash/funds from a line item or department to another, book transfers and budget amendments
