Cougar Theater Presents Scenes from A Company of Wayward Saints
Cougar Theater performed scenes from George Herman’s A Company of Wayward Saints on Tuesday evening in the Rosebud- Lott High School Theater, ahead of their performance in the 2A UIL District 27 One Act Play (OAP) Competition at Cameron Yoe High School on Tuesday, March 10.
A Company of Wayward Saints is a lively comedic drama that follows a dysfunctional troupe of commedia dell’arte actors led by the charismatic Harlequin (Lane Endsley). Stranded far from home, the troupe attempts to secure funding from a wealthy duke by staging an ambitious performance of “The History of Man.”
Their production began with The Fall of Adam and Eve, portrayed by the Lovers, Tristano (Jayden Martin) and Isabella (Ariah Campbell), before leaping into the Roman era with the tale of Odysseus, played by Capitano (Perry Lorenz), and Penelope, played by Colombine (Haylee Alexis). But behind the scenes, clashing egos, selfish ambitions, and constant infighting threatened to tear the company apart. Could they overcome their differences in time to save their future—or did their own flaws bring the curtain down? (Spoiler alert: they pulled it off!)
This spirited band of traveling players—alongside the rest of their company, Ruffiana (Bella Aguillon), Dottore (Braden Guthrie), Pantalone (Peyton Williams), and Scapino (Luke Price)— created an evening filled with laughter, heart, and the enduring power of the human spirit.
The crew included Elyssa Hinton (Stage Manager), Flore Perez (Stage Manager), Parker Peters (Lights), William Marmon (Lights), Kimberly Johns (Sound), Micah Portillo (Sound), Izayah Davis (Special Lights), Justin Portillo (Crew), Leia Waldrop (Crew) and Kayci Eckman (Crew).
“Some of the students were hesitant when I chose the script, but since then, they have come to love it,” Woodworth said. “They have made leaps and bounds since the first rehearsal.”
If you are interested in seeing this play (and six others), you are invited to attend the OAP Competition on March 10, free of charge. The first show begins at 11 a.m., and RLHS is fourth in line, expecting to take the stage sometime between 1:30 and 2 p.m.
