Cougar Theatre presents “Anatomy of Gray” by Jim Leonard

The Rosebud-Lott Middle School theater department presented its one-act play, Anatomy of Gray by Jim Leonard, for competition yesterday. Set at the end of the 19th century, in the small town of Gray, Ind., the play is considered a poignant “children’s story for adults.”

Following the death of her father, 15-year-old June prays for a “healer” so no one in town will ever have to suffer again. When a man literally blows into town in a hot air balloon, she thinks her prayer has been answered. At first, the new doctor cures anything and everyone, but soon his presence leads to a clash between faith and science.

Beautifully told by the students, this production has received a number of awards for the cast and crew.

On Thursday, Nov. 10, the play was presented as part of the Belton ISD middle school One Act play contest. The contest consisted of the four Belton ISD middle schools and Rosebud-Lott middle school. The students took top honors coming home with individual and cast awards.

Awards for Honorable Mention All Star Cast went to Dixie Flores, Justin Portillo, and Cheyenne Cannon. Three students received All Star Cast Awards. Those awards were given to Bella Aguillon, Carter Endsley, and Salem Coker. Sara Johns took home an Outstanding Technician award as well. Finally, Brooklyn Ballard and Perry Lorenz both earned Outstanding Actor awards.

The cast placed first overall in the festival. Other students involved were 7th graders Zoey Lavinder, Kynleigh Evan-Mattair, Payton Williams, Alyxianna Sanjaun, Arturo Herrera and 8th graders Jerian Yoder, Carmen Jenkins, and Alyssa Blackman

Our public performance took place on Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Rosebud-Lott High School Theater and then the cast will present the play to the student body at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 18.

There is no cost to see this production, simply pay what you can or you donate what you can to our growing program. Please come out and support our students and congratulate them on a Superior Production.
