County jail expansion could cost $1.5 million
The Falls County commissioners asked for a ballpark estimate of what the cost would be to add space for an additional 48 beds to the Falls County Jail. The answer of $1.5 million definitely started Judge Jay Elliott and the commissioners asking a lot questions, which dominated their meeting Monday morning, Feb. 25.
Sheriff Ricky Scaman has asked to have built six, eight-man holding cells which would require about 3,800 square feet of additional space.
Jim Hanks, an engineer with HESCO LLC, gathered the estimated cost and made a verbal presentation to the commissioners. Once Hanks finished talking, Precinct 2 Commissioner F.A. Green said $1.5 million was the amount the court needed to begin considering.
