Elevator is Out of Order at County Courthouse

Falls County Commissioners Court met at the County Courthouse, Marlin, TX, on January 12 County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F. A. Green (Pct. 2), Jason Willberg (Pct. 3) and Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4). ADA Steve Sharp was in attendance.

The retirement of Molly Downs was announced. Tina Melendez will replace her. In other matters, the Commissioners approved the 89(R) SB8 resolution regarding grant funding for the operation of the Sheriff’s Office including patrol, jail operations, dispatch, criminal investigation, and other law-enforcement services necessary for safety and welfare of county citizens.

Commissioners approved the Sheriff’s Office 2025 racial profiling report and the purchase of brush guards for Sheriff’s office vehicles costing around $3,396 for four vehicles. Sheriff Department bonds were approved for Stephen Smith and Dana Crump.

No action was taken regarding the Texas Autopsy Services presentation. Commissioner Wuebker moved to lower the speed limit to 30 mph at the intersection of CR 424 with Private Road 826 and continuing to the city limits of Golinda. If a county road does not have a posted speed limit sign, the speed is automatically 60 mph. Seconded by Commissioner Green, the motion carried.

The Commissioners recessed the opening meeting and reconvened in executive session pursuant to Section 551.071 and Section 551.072 of the Government Code to discuss consultation with attorney involving pending litigation and valuation of real property. More specifically the pending lawsuit filed as True North Solar LLC vs Falls County Appraisal District regarding the value of Plaintiff’s property for the 2025 ad valorem tax year. No action taken.

On another note, Commissioners discussed the status of the non-operable elevator. Commissioners approved the KONE $3,000 invoice. KONE will provide a service technician for four hours on site to troubleshoot the 40-yearold elevator controller, and trace shorts in the electrical system.

Jeff Jackson, Road & Bridge Administrator, noted there are two hires. One outstanding bill needs to be paid and some FEMA funding has been received.

Commissioner Albright moved to approve the payment of all bills, budget amendments, and payroll. Seconded by Commissioner Willberg, the motion carried. Commissioner Wuebker moved to approve the minutes from the previous meeting. Second by Commissioner Green, the motion carried. The next Commissioners meeting is Monday, January 26 at 9 a.m.. With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 10:42 a.m.
