Fallen soldier’s memory lives on

Family, friends, and fellow service members of Cpl. William Warford III gathered the morning of Saturday, September 16 as the stretch of highway between Lott and Rosebud was dedicated to the fallen soldier.

The ceremony took place at the intersection of Highway 53 and Highway 77 right outside of Rosebud.

Warford was born in Lott where he spent most of his childhood.

In 2004 he started his service to his country in the Army as a tank mechanic stationed at Fort Hood.

Cpl. Warford was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in Balad, Iraq on September 5, 2007, leaving behind a wife, and two young daughters.

The Falls County Commissioners were more than happy to help William’s family dedicate part of Highway 77 to him in his memory.

County Judge Jay Elliot, who served in the Army for 21 years, led the ceremony where the dedication sign was unveiled.

After the dedication friends and family in attendance continued to meet with one another at a reception held in the Caywood Building in Rosebud.
