Falls County is ready to enter digital era

The Falls County Commissioners are currently awaiting bids for improving the technology within the county building.

County Judge Jay Elliot announced at the meeting on Jan. 13 that the computers used by county staff would need updating in the next year due to the Windows software that is currently used will be expiring.

The county reached out to Engineer Austin, LLC, the Texas-registered engineering firm that currently handles their technological support, for a quote on their upcoming technological endeavors. Brenton Haag, who has helped out around the courthouse on numerous occasions, was present to help answer any questions.

“It is no longer a valid operating system,” he explained to commissioners when prompted as to why upgrading was needed. “And so certain computers in the office have to move from Windows 7 to a different Windows operating system.”

The Windows 7 “end-of-life” date was Jan. 14, 2020, meaning that support and updates on the system are no longer being offered by the software company. The county plans to purchase desktops for all of the county employees whose computers have not...
