Falls County Republican Party Honors State Senator Brian Birdwell

The Falls County Republican Party presented a Ronald Reagan Day honoring State Senator District 22, Brian Birdwell, Saturday, September 20, 2025 at the Falls County Fairgrounds. Former Mayor Elizabeth Nelson officiated the program.

Senator Birdwell is a native Texas, decorated military veteran and lifelong conservative Republican who served in the Texas Senate for fifteen years. On September 11, 2001, when American Airlines Flight 77 crashed a few yards from the second floor Pentagon office, Birdwell was critically wounded and severely burned. Through months of treatments, he testified not only to his physical healing but the ultimate miracle of grace through Christ. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received that day. Retired, he and wife Mel, operated Face the Fire Ministries, a non-profit organization founded to support critical-burn survivors. For his Ronald Reagan symmetry, William Roe presented Birdwell with the Ronald Reagan Spirit Award from the Falls County Republican Party. Birdwell noted that he was thankful for service and “We are all Americans”.

The fundraiser’s guest speaker was Karen Watson of Dallas and author of several books, including “Being Black & Republican in the Age of Trump”. She spoke of former President Ronald Reagan as her lifelong idol and cited that the Republican Party is full of Black History. The audience was reminded “To tell basic stories, we need to know stories to tell.”
