Fifty years of Champions

This past weekend marked half a century that Falls County youth have been displaying their hard work on and off of the farm.

The Falls County Youth Fair is one of the biggest events that take place in Falls County each year.

Livestock judges were very impressed with the quality of the animals raised by the young men and women in the area, and organizers were excited to see growth in the number of entries for things such as baking and art.

Starting at 8:00 a.m.on the morning of Thursday, September 14, and continuing through the evening of Sunday, September 17 the kids showed off their hard work for the year, which had started right after last year’s fair.

The largest divisions were the lamb and goat divisions, and the cattle division.

“Many of these animals would be competitive at college shows,” said the cattle judge during her comments on the division over all.

Boys and girls from the Rosebud-Lott, and Westphalia organizations represented the area well with five grand champion wins and four reserve grand champion wins.

The Rosebud-Lott FFA came in next with five grand champion and reserve grand champion awards. Tanner Martin alone took home both Grand Champion, and Reserve Grand Champion with his Breeding Goats, and Grand Champion with a Market Goat. Westphalia came in first with five of their members taking home Grand Champion awards; Brooklyn Wilde in Market Swine, Tracer Lopez in Broilers, Cody Wells in Exotic Class Heifers, Nathaniel Hoelscher in Rabbits, and Izabel Strumbaugh in Cakes. Brooke Skala took home a Reserve Grand Champion for her cake as well.

Along with reserve, and grand champion wins, members of these organizations also won buckles for their great showmanship in the ring. Altogether it was obvious that the area has a bright future with these kids, weather they go on to a career in agriculture or not. These lessons in dedication will surely follow them on into their futures.
