Fire burns nearly 100 acres near Marlin

About 10 to 15 homes were evacuated on Tuesday, Aug. 2, because of a nearly 100-acre fire that was burned near Highway 6 and County Road 220 in Falls County.

The fire, which is being called the Bulldog Fire, sparked near Highway 6 and 382 County Road 220 in the afternoon. It was started after some power lines rubbed up against some trees, causing some buildings to catch fire.

The Marlin Fire Department said that fire operations have resumed Wednesday morning to put out any remaining glowing embers and cool off any hotspots.

The department had to break off three trucks from the Bulldog fire to go extinguish a grass fire, caused by someone burning household trash in a burn barrel.  This resulted in the homeowner being taken to jail as this was not his first time violating the burn ban and nearly damaging adjacent structures.

Agencies responding to the Bulldog fire were: Marlin Volunteer Fire Department, City of Marlin Fire Department, Texas Forest Service (air support & ground support), TIFMAS (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aide System), Reagan Volunteer Fire Department, Lott Volunteer Fire Department, Rosebud Volunteer Fire Department, Westphalia Volunteer Fire Department, Chilton Volunteer Fire Department, Riesel Volunteer Fire Department, Bremond Volunteer Fire Department, Robinson Volunteer Fire Department, City of Bellmead Fire Department, City of Waco Fire Department, Downsville Volunteer Fire Department, McLennan County Fire Corp., Falls County Sheriff’s Office Deputies & Dispatchers, Falls County Road and Bridge, City of Marlin Public Works, Constable Precinct #1 Johnathon Shoemaker, Constable Precinct #2 Marion Humphrey, Constable Precinct #4 Jerry Loden, Texas Department of Public Safety, AMR, and Falls County EMC.
