First phase of Rosebud ditch project to begin

Preparations are underway to begin the first phase of our ditch project here in the city limits.

“For years one of the big complaints in town has been inadequate drainage due to silting and damaged culverts,” City Administrator Kenny Ray Murray said. “With the release of the American Rescue plan funds, the city of Rosebud received $167,000 for infrastructure repairs. With another $167,000 coming this year.  While the city has several issues that need to be addressed, the flooding must be corrected first, before we can start sewer and water line repairs under the roads.”

Murray said that once a firm is chosen, survey crews will start the process of mapping drainage through the city so we can determine the exact depth and grade to cut, so that we complete this task correctly.

The first part of the project will involve the four main drainage ditches that run through town. These must be carefully redone so that during the second phase the secondary and tertiary ditches can be cut to the correct grade to ensure that the entire city drains as efficiently as possible.

“Homeowners may be required to replace damaged or sub-code culverts in driveways as determined by the survey and the city code enforcement,” Murray said. “We have held off these replacements until the correct sizing can be determined. Due to the large scope and complex nature of this project issues will arise with road blockages and restricted access to driveways and alleys occurring on occasion. We believe that this is a big step in the further development and growth of the city of Rosebud. This is one of many we are taking to improve the lives our citizens.”
