High School Volleyball Action on Full Throttle This Week

What a week, what a week folks! Our area high schools are definitely putting it all together to make that push to the playoffs. So what’s, where? Let’s take a look!

Rosebud-Lott Lady Cougars

What a great way to start last week, as the Texas Girls Coaches Association State Volleyball Poll was released, with the Lady Cougars breaking into the top 10 rankings in Class 2A, at No. 9. At the end of last week, Rosebud-Lott dropped two matches. One was to Central Texas Christian, who are undefeated in TAPPS 3A, and the other to the Troy Lady Trojans in a hard-fought match Friday evening. The Lady Cougars look to bounce back this week!

Buckholts Lady Badgers

The Lady Badgers improved to (4-1) after sweeping the Memorial Christian Academy Lady Warriors, 25-16, 25-7, 25-16, at home Tuesday. Kimberlee Owen had an outstanding match overall, serving up 12 aces.

Chilton Lady Pirates

It was a tough week for the Lady Pirates, as the team is still looking to find their groove and eventually climb above the .500 mark this season. The girls continue to play hard though.

Marlin Lady Bulldogs

After picking up some hard-fought wins at the Groesbeck Back to School Bash Volleyball Tournament this past weekend, the Lady Bulldogs are nearing the .500 mark.

Milano Lady Eagles

The Lady Eagles went (1-3) last week, dropping a three-set match to Mumford last Tuesday, but bounced back to sweep Florence in two sets, 25-22, 25-20, in tournament action over the weekend. Milano dropped two tough matches in the tournament, one to Rockdale in three sets, and the other to Navasota in two sets.

Cameron Lady Yoe

The Lady Yoe varsity volleyball team improved to (9-3) overall after crushing the Bosqueville Lady Bulldogs Tuesday, in four sets, 25-23, 25-18, 10-25, 25-22. The junior varsity Maroon fell in two sets, while the JV Grey picked up a win in two sets, 25-19, 25-16.

Friday’s action saw the Lady Yoe pick up another huge win, by sweeping the Hearne Lady Eagles in three sets, 25-4, 25-8, 25-3. Lots of defense at the net, and super attacks in the match by the Lady Yoe. The JV Maroon swept their match as well, 25-5, 25-8.

Thorndale Lady Bulldogs

The injury bug has struck the Lady Bulldogs varsity squad, but the team came away from the Bastrop tournament as consolation winners, and improving to (5-10) so far this season. It was a tough go for the girls, but some of the younger members stepped in to help, and also gained some great experience playing at the varsity level. Here are the Lady Bulldogs tournament results. The three tournament victories came against teams in 5A, and 6A!

The Lady Bulldogs had one player from the varsity squad named to the All-Tournament Team, and that was Reese Cloud.
