Lott EDC completes several projects

The Lott Economic Development Corporation would like to let the public know what has been accomplished and have input for possible future projects.

The voters of Lott approved the establishment of the Lott EDC in an election on May 2, 1998. On Dec. 14, 1998, the Lott City Council, by resolution, created the Lott EDC; and a board of directors (consisting of seven members) was established on Dec. 29, 1998.

A certificate of corporation was issued by the Secretary of State on Jan. 8, 1999. The EDC would receive a monthly allotment (.5 percent sales tax) for projects within the city of Lott to encourage economic growth, development, and community improvements.

Several major projects have been accomplished, as well as some smaller ones, over the years.

Some of them are: four Welcome to Lott signs; Lott Industrial Park signs; donation for the Rosebud-Lott State Football Championship sign; monetary donation to the City Parks; the purchase, installation, and upkeep of the flagpole(including purchasing flags;) sprinkler systems in two sections of the City Parks; paid for the paint for the facades of stores on Main Street and all the exterior paint for City Hall; helped provide the driveways and utilities to new businesses; ribbon cutting for new businesses; lights and electronic eyes for the old Christmas lights; paid half (in partnership with the Civic Club) on trashcans for Main Street and picnic tables; purchased and installed the Electronic Marquee; pavement for the side road to Cefco; and purchased all the new Christmas lights for downtown.

One major project was paying for half of all expenses for the construction of the Pavilion (by the Post Office.) There are also three picnic tables provided by the EDC; three additional picnic tables are currently ordered. Another project that the E.D.C. Paid for was the renovation of the playground portion of the park – ground leveling; filler dirt; proper drainage; tree trimming; new playground equipment and the safety factors under them; the painting and repair of old playground equipment; repaired parts of the fence; replaced one side of fence and gates; purchased additional tables/benches and a handicap accessible swing; replaces the swings and seesaws; had a new handicap accessible bridge built; laid pavement into area; and new signage. The last project was to help reestablish the youth baseball program by providing the new building that houses storage; the concession stand; and handicap accessible restrooms; ramps; connections  for utilities; equipment; etc. The E.D.C. Also participates in Trunk or Treat and the annual Christmas Parade.

At this time, the E.D.C. Is working on getting a new, permanent Welcome sign, providing utilities to a new business, and trying to get a Dollar General Store for the town. A future project might be expansion of the Civic Center and utilities to more businesses. Suggestions for possible future projects would be appreciated. If you have any suggestions, please attend the next E.D. C. meeting, on Monday, October 21, 2019 at 5:30 p.m., at the Lott Civic Center, to give your input. The public is welcome and encouraged to come to E.D.C. Meetings, which are usually on the third Monday of the month.
