Man rescued from silo in Chilton

Firefighters from several area departments were involved in a rescue effort Wednesday in Chilton after a man got trapped in a silo filled with corn.

They pulled the man to safety at around 3:30 p.m., and he descended the ladder on his own.

The man, whom the Falls County Sheriff’s Office identified as Wilbert Ratliff Jr., was inside the silo working to clear a blockage.

He told authorities he was pulled into the corn up to his chest when the blockage cleared.

Paramedics checked him out at the scene after the rescue.

“A special auger silo extraction device was used to free Mr. Ratliff,” the sheriff’s office said.

A rescue team from the Waco Fire Department responded to assist in the rescue.
