Many Area Cities See Sales Tax Revenue Drop
Six cities in Milam and Falls Counties saw monthly sales tax revenue drop in July compared to the same month in 2024, but one in each county saw an increase.
In Falls County, Marlin’s sales tax revenue rose from $93,159 to $101,043, an increase of 8.46%, according to the Texas State Comptroller. Year to date collections for 2025 were
$723,667, an increase of
7.28% compared to 2024.
Also in Falls County, Rosebud collected
$14,742, compared to
$14,883 in 2024, a decrease of .94%. Year to date collections were
$121,671, a drop of
18.36%. And Lott collected
$11,603, compared to
$11,997, a decrease of
3.28%. Year to date collections were $89,460, down 5.79%.
In Milam County, Cameron collected $98,598, compared to $103,601 in 2024, a decrease of
4.82%. Year to date collections were $799,321, a hike of .43%.
Also in Milam County, Thorndale collected
$20,894, compared to
$22,176 in 2024, a decrease of 5.77%. Year to date collections were $172,887, a rise of .71%. And Rockdale collected $113,976, compared to $122,370 in 2024,
a 6.85% decrease. Year to date collections were $804,290, a hike of 2.95%. Milano collected $14,746, compared to $!6,101, a decrease of 8.41%. Year to date collections were
$133,987, a 15,21% jump. Buckholts collected $3751, compared to $2,904 in 2024, an increase of 29.17%. Year to date collections were $30,063, an increase of 39.52%.
Statewide, Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock said state sales tax revenue reached $4.19 billion in July, which was 4.9% more than in July 2024.
Hancock said retail trade and service suppliers showed increases, while grocery stores and gasoline stations showed decreases. Receipts from home improvement stores also rose, she said.
Sales tax is the largest source of state funding for the state budget, accounting for 58 percent of all tax collections.
