Murray receives Lifesaving Awards for heroic actions

On Sunday, March 3, at approximately 7 a.m. a structure fire was observed by Rosebud resident Kevin Coulter and Kenny Murray at 1109 West Main Street in Rosebud.

Coulter had discovered the fire and alerted Kenny Murray that the homeowner, Dan Komar, was believed to be inside and unaware of the fire and its danger. Komar, whose ability to walk was limited, was known to utilize a wheelchair for movement assistance.

Murry, who serves as Rosebud’s City Manager, took quick action and entered the smoke-filled home to alert Komar. Murray was able to locate Komar in a back bedroom. With the assistance of Murray, Komar was able to exit the burning home. With the exception of minor smoke inhalation, both men exited without injury.

Rosebud Fire Chief Caleb Miller served as on-scene commander, directing actions to distiguish the fire. The majority of damage to the home was confined to the kitchen area. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Chief Miller said that Murray’s quick actions without doubt saved Komar’s life. Later, Komar state that had it not been for Murray he would not have survived the fire.

Mayor Marlene Zipperlen honored Murray and Coulter with Lifesaving Certificates last week during the city council meeting.
