Preservation Rosebud elects new officers

Preservation Rosebud’s Board of Directors met on Wednesday, June 7, at the Rosebud Museum. Members present were: President James Prothro, Treasurer Marla Wallace, Secretary Fran Heugatter, and board members Les Heugatter, Greg Wallace, Alfred Martinez, Sharon Saunders, and Joe Saunders.

The by-laws of Preservation Rosebud allow for a rotation of officers through term limits. James Prothro has served as president for over ten years, and Marla Wallace has served as treasurer for over sixteen years.

President Prothro suggested the following re-aligned roster of officers: President Les Heugatter, Vice-president Greg Wallace, Secretary James Prothro, Treasurer Alfred Martinez, Publicist Fran Heugatter, and Grant writer Marla Wallace. The new officers were elected unanimously.

Joining the board will be Caroline Akers Wright in the grant department and Tiffani Murray in public relations and community involvement. They are both enthusiastically welcomed.

President Prothro expressed appreciation to the group for another successful Rosebud High School Golden Years Reception on April 1. Sharon Saunders received special thanks for her contribution of several lovely wildflower arrangements.

Incoming President Les Heugatter spoke for the members in thanking James Prothro and Marla Wallace for their dedicated involvement. James Prothro’s tireless leadership these last ten years has made possible the completion of the first floor museum, boardroom, office area, flooring, kitchen, and handicap accessible restroom. Countless volunteer hours have gone into making it a stellar municipal asset for Rosebud.

Special thanks to Marla Zipperlen Wallace, who has served so diligently in the position of treasurer. Her consistent record keeping since 2007 has been invaluable to Preservation Rosebud. She has applied for and received several grants from HOTEC, and her new position as grant writer will be a needed asset to the continued improvement of the museum. A 21 gun salute to James and Marla!

Going forward, Preservation Rosebud plans to open the museum for receptions for both the Rosebud and Rosebud-Lott alumni. Involving school groups,  scheduling tours, use of docents, rotating displays, and organizing the upstairs areas are new priorities.

Pauline Grover, Rosebud High School Class of ‘38, is the newest Lifetime Member.

After the meeting was adjourned, the group headed to HWY 77 Cafe for a late supper and enjoyed more time together.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 20, 2023 at 7:00 at the museum. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
