Preservation Rosebud plans Friends of the Museum

As members of Preservation Rosebud arrived at the museum on Sept. 21, they were amazed to find the pots of crotons at the entrance flourishing and putting on new growth.

This was because of the constant care these plants have received from our “Friend of the Museum” Karen Wolf, who volunteered to keep them watered during the dry summer months. She is now known as our “Watering Angel.”

Eight members were present for the meeting: Les Heugatter, president; Greg Wallace, vice-president; Fran Heugatter, secretary/publicist; James Prothro, facilities manager; Marla Wallace, grants; Tiffani Murray, public relations; and board members Joe and Sharon Saunders.

President Les Heugatter called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. The minutes of the July meeting were presented by Secretary James Prothro, who also presented the treasurer’s report in the absence of Alfred Martinez. Both were approved without correction.

The “Tambourine Report” is a highlight of each gathering, celebrating successes since the last meeting. Fran Heugatter shakes a tambourine followed by good news for the group.

Richard Schigut has been a generous supporter of Preservation Rosebud, holding two Life Memberships. His recent donation of a two-sided magazine advertisement for the Rosebud Dress Co. is being framed for display.

Leola Komar is another Lifetime Member who always visits the museum for the Golden Years reception to make a donation and show her support. Thanks to James Prothro who shared copies of thank you notes he’s written to both Richard Schigut and Leola Komar expressing our appreciation.

Joe and Sharon Saunders have donated a large industrial sink for the upstairs workroom. On Friday,  Joe Saunders and Les Heugatter carried the sink to the second floor area.

The Rosebud News articles by Fran Heugatter were distributed. Preservation Rosebud is proud of this coverage in our local newspaper and all members are encouraged to subscribe to The Rosebud News.

A recent realignment of officers adds the position of  secretary to Fran Heugatter’s duties as publicist. James Prothro will serve the group as facilities manager in a shift from his job as secretary.

Hundreds of volunteer hours have gone into renovating the building. Members are reminded to submit their hours to Fran Heugatter.

Preservation Rosebud is looking for a group of volunteers willing to donate a few hours to the museum. Some duties for “Friends of the Museum” might include acting as docents, preparing the building for events, and assisting during the Golden Years and Rosebud-Lott 50+ reunion receptions. Anyone interested in becoming a “Friend of the Museum” may contact Les and Fran Heugatter at (281) 353-0383.

The reception for the Rosebud-Lott 50+ Reunion on Aug. 5 began a new era in extending hospitality to returning alumni.

Marla Wallace’s vision for opening the museum for these events will continue each year as Rosebud-Lott High School classmates hold annual reunions on the first Saturday in August. Members of Preservation Rosebud look forward to hosting a reception to welcome the Golden Cougars.

Congratulations to the organizers of this first fifty plus reunion. According to our favorite ‘73 R-L graduate Marla Zipperlen Wallace, it was a great party.

The 100+ Garage Sales is scheduled for Nov. 4. In the past, members have operated a booth with proceeds benefiting Preservation Rosebud. All agreed to participate as a fund raiser for the organization.

After the meeting adjourned, everyone enjoyed refreshments, including Marla Wallace’s signature buttermilk pound cake, iced tea, and Fran Heugatter’s artichoke dip with pita chips.

Thanks to Donald and Delores Zipperlen at Rosebud Feed and Grain for supplying the floral arrangement.

Joe Saunders suggested an earlier start time and it was agreed to begin the Thursday, Oct. 26, meeting at a new time of 6 p.m.

All local businesses are invited to join Preservation Rosebud. Yearly memberships of $15 and Lifetime Memberships of $200 may be sent to Preservation Rosebud, P. O. Box 792, Rosebud, TX 76570.

This has been a banner year for Preservation Rosebud with two receptions, continued renovations to the museum, new Lifetime Members, and the addition of a Facebook page. Add “Preservation Rosebud” to your “Favorites” and follow us for upcoming events. We salute all our supporters and look forward to serving the community in 2024.

Everything’s rosy in Rosebud.
