Preservation Rosebud welcomes Rosebud High alumni at reunion

Members of Preservation Rosebud opened the museum on Saturday, April 2, for a reception honoring RHS alumni returning for the Golden Years Reunion.

Over 60 guests mingled with friends and Preservation Rosebud members Les and Fran Heugatter, La Verne Withers, Joe and Sharon Saunders, Greg and Marla Wallace, and Helen Wallace.

Special guests were Mrs. P.J. (Doris Kleypas) Hoelscher and Pauline Wallace Grover, RHS Class of 1938, the Wisest Graduate in attendance. Several members of the Honor Class of 1970, the last class to graduate from RHS,  toured the building.

The Wednesday Study Club, established in 1929, was featured this year with a new display by Marla Wallace. Pictures of all the churches in Rosebud were arranged on an alter table in the main room.

Refreshments for the reception, including buttermilk pound cake, bacon cheese cracker, fruit medley, coffee and juice, were provided by Marla Wallace and sponsored by: Carson and Helen Wallace at Hensel Hardware; Donald and Delores Zipperlen at Rosebud Feed & Grain; James Prothro, Alfred Martinez, Les and Fran Heugatter, Greg and Marla Wallace, and Donald and Carole Schmidt.

Over 430 volunteer hours of painting and polishing went into preparing the museum for the reception. Preservation Rosebud President James Prothro and members Greg Wallace, Marla Wallace, Alfred Martinez, Joe Saunders, Sharon Saunders, Les Heugatter and Fran Heugatter readied the museum for the guests.

New carpeting was installed throughout the main rooms. Several new additions included a 1920 Ruby sewing machine, an antique marble table, a communion table, a church pulpit, and a large serving counter from Hensel Hardware.

Generous donations to Preservation Rosebud were made by Lifetime Member Leola Komar, Sue Sturrock, Nan Hensel Bailey, and Kosse Mayor Brooks Valls and wife Linda Valls. New Lifetime Members are Les and Fran Heugatter.

Those wishing to donate to the museum may contact Marla Wallace, Preservation Rosebud Treasurer, at P.O. Box 792, Rosebud, TX 76570.

Yearly members are $15 and Lifetime Memberships are available for $200. New members, donations, and volunteers are always welcome. Preservation Rosebud plans to begin opening the museum to visitors on a regular basis.

Thanks to everyone who made the Golden Years Reunion a very special day.
