RLISD sets town hall to discuss bond issue

Rosebud-Lott ISD is gearing up for an important bond election this November, and voters will have the opportunity to shape the future of our schools. Come learn more about what is on the ballot.

“The $25 million bond proposal on the ballot is designed to fund necessary upgrades to school facilities, enhance learning spaces, and support the expansion of career and technical programs,” RLISD Superintendent Jim Rosebrock said. “These improvements are crucial as many of our middle and high school buildings, which were built in 1971, have not undergone major renovations in decades.”

As a result, essential infrastructure like electrical and HVAC systems need to be updated to ensure a safe and comfortable learning environment for our students. This bond will allow for the expansion of career programs in areas like welding, cybersecurity, and robotics, helping students gain valuable skills for today’s job market.

Remember, this bond is a unique opportunity, as solar farms will cover 64 percent of the cost.

One of the most important aspects of the Rosebud-Lott ISD bond proposal is the significant financial contribution from taxes on solar farms.

These solar farms will cover 64 percent of the $25 million bond, reducing the amount local taxpayers will have to fund. This means taxpayers will only be responsible for $9 million of the project’s total cost. It's a rare opportunity to upgrade our schools with minimal financial impact on the community.

However, it’s important to consider the bonds now, as the value of solar farms depreciates over time, reducing the potential tax revenue they can generate in the future. By considering the bond this November, voters can choose to maximize the benefit of the solar farms, ensuring that the district receives critical funding for necessary school improvements.

“Without this bond, our schools will continue to rely on outdated systems, and the solar farms' contribution will be lost,” RLISD Superintendent Jim Rosebrock said.

Early voting starts on Oct. 21, and Election Day is Nov. 5 - don’t miss your chance to be part of this important decision.

A Town Hall Meeting will be held on Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at Lott Fire Department, 313 E Gassaway in Lott.

Campus Walkthroughs at Rosebud-Lott High School will be held on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m., Oct. 16 at 6 p.m., and Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.
