Rosebud-Lott High School Band Earns Sweepstakes at UIL Concert And Sight-Reading Evaluation

The band from Rosebud-Lott High School earned the highest possible honor at the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation, receiving straight Division I ratings from judges and securing a sweepstakes award.

The Roaring Cougar Band performed at C.H. Yoe High School, where students first presented prepared concert selections for a panel of judges as part of the University Interscholastic League evaluation process.

Following the concert performance, the band moved to the sight-reading portion of the contest, where students were given a piece of music they had never seen before and asked to perform it after a short study period. The exercise evaluates a band’s musicianship, teamwork and ability to interpret unfamiliar music under pressure.

Judges awarded the band straight Division I ratings — the highest possible score — in both the concert and sight-reading portions of the evaluation.

Receiving a Division I rating from every judge qualifies a band for the coveted sweepstakes award, considered the highest honor a school band can earn in UIL competition. The UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation is one of the most prestigious events for Texas school band programs, measuring both musical performance and technical skill.

The sweepstakes recognition highlights the continued dedication and excellence of the Rosebud-Lott High School band and its student musicians.
