Rosebud-Lott ISD extends break over COVID-19 concerns

Rosebud-Lott ISD will be closed through March 20 as concerns over the spread of COVID-19 continue.

Superintendent Dr. Steve Brownlee announced on Friday that the district would be closed March 16-20 in a letter to the community.

“If you are not aware, there is now a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Bell County from someone who had been traveling abroad,” Brownlee said in the letter. “The best description that I have heard to describe this situation is fluid or rapidly changing. It is highly contagious. While the effects of the virus appear to be much worse in the elderly, our children contract the virus, get sick, and carry it home to their families.”

Brownlee said the schools will be closed to hopefully slow down the spread of the virus by limiting student exposure to only their closest friends and family.

“As this progresses, we will re-evaluate the progress of the virus in our area and keep you posted of our intentions,” he said.

The district has also cancelled the two public meetings that were set for Monday, March 16, to gather input for the superintendent search.
