Rosebud working together to improve parks

American Legion Park, on North 2nd Street in Rosebud, has been used by the community for more than 70 years. It’s time to renovate the park to preserve history and build for the future.

For over five years, the Rosebud Parks+Recreation, City of Rosebud, and Town Square Community Foundation have been working together to implement THRIVE – Master Plan for Rosebud Parks. The campaign’s purpose is to revitalize outdoor spaces that are safe for children to play, parents to gather, adults to relax, families to unite, and for community to thrive. With community support, improvements are underway and much has been accomplished to pave the way for phase 1 improvements.

Those improvements include:

  • Land surveys completed for American Legion , Unity, and Freedom Parks
  • Environmental Studies completed for American Legion Park and Unity Park
  • Obtained a $74,995 matching grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife
  • Completed Archaeology study at American Legion Park, as required by Texas Parks and Wildlife
  • Flood analysis study completed at American Legion park to address flooding/drainage issues
  • Worked with TxDOT to begin replacing brindge along N. 2nd Street
  • Completed Master Plan for Rosebud’s Parks
  • Lifted the Hope Memorial Bridge and placed on concrete blacks
  • Completed construction drawings for phase 1 improvements to American Legion Park
  • Relocated the historic Big Elm Creek Bridge to American Legion Park for walking trail
  • Relocated water lines for future improvements to American Legion Park
  • Hauled over 2,000 cubic yards of fill to raise elevations in American Legion Park

The Phase One goal is $260,000. There has been over$130,000 raised for park improvements and over $30,000 raised of in-kind good and services (paying with goods or services instead of money.)

The Thrive campaign is a project of the City of Rosebud’s Parks & Recreation Board. The Town Square Community Foundation, a 501(c)3, is the campaign’s charitable partner and is responsible for procesing all charitable gifts. All gifts are tax deductable to the fullest extent of the law and no goods or services will be given for donations.
