Song “Rosebud News” On Top 40 Chart

Kenny Driska’s original song “Rosebud News,” recorded and released by artist Joe Rich this past fall, has enjoyed some time on the Cruisin’ County Radio Top 40 List, and he’s hoping to get it to number one with the help of local votes!

Driska has deep roots in Rosebud- it’s where he went to school, graduated, and got his first job as a teacher and coach. Driska was even the Rosebud-Lott High School Principal for a time, before moving to Cameron ISD 17 years ago.

“In my much younger days, when I first started teaching and coaching, through some mutual friends there in Rosebud, the Whitfields, I met a guy from Milano named Alvie King. He was a basketball coach in Milano, and we’ve been friends for 30 something years now,” Driska said. “A few years ago, I saw on Facebook where he’d posted something about some songs he had written being recorded and being on this top 40 list, so I contacted him and asked him a little bit about it because I thought what a cool thing to do, to say that you’ve written a song that’s been recorded.”

Driska told King about a song idea he had, then shared the initial lyrics for his opinion.

“He made some edits to my original writings, and then sent it off to a guy that I think is in New York named Wayne Sinclair, and from what I understand, Wayne is the one that put it to music. He wrote that music part of it,” Driska said. “Joe Rich is another guy that they both know and have done some work with. Joe recorded it and put it out around September/ October, something like that. It hit YouTube, and they put it on the Cruisin’ County Radio chart to be voted on.”

In November, “Rosebud News” debuted at number 24; it jumped to number 2 in December, fell to number 7 in January, and to 8 in February. The song is an ode to a simpler time, before the intruding bustle of the internet age and smartphones. Driska is hoping to garner more votes from folks who are taken down memory lane by his lyrics.

“I’m not a young guy by any means, I’m 54 years old so I’m far from being a youngster, but I’ve connected with a lot of folks much older than I am, and even people from other towns with small town newspapers,” Driska said. “I think it’s just got a very nostalgic feel to it for anybody that grew up reading a small town newspaper.”

With this first success under his belt, Driska has already started working on another song, though he now knows that it is “not a short process at all,” taking two or three years from writing it to hearing the published song. In the meantime, he hopes you will visit https://cruisincountryradio. com/ and vote for “Rosebud News”!
